Avast and SpywareTerminator

In the past, I have used Avast and SpywareTerminator Real Time with HIPS as my security system and it has worked well with W2K.

I am wondering if the SpywareTerminator Real Time with HIPS is still necessary since Avast now has antispyware and antirootkit added.  I would love to only have one app running so my computer is more responsive, but I don't want to compromise security.

What is recommended?

Well just to let you know,ST is from a company called Crawler,which used to be on the Rogue anti-spyware list.

They've been taken off recently,but I still wouldn't use that program.

Is better for you to turn on the HIPS IF you want your computer more safe. For me i turn it on and no problem happen to me.

They haven't been taken form the list very recently: De-listed app from 2006 include: Spyware Terminator

My suggestion, continue as normal with ST installed including HIPS, try it and see what the results. Lots of people are using ST and the new version and avast 4.8 which doesn't have HIPS so there really shouldn't be any HIP to HIP clash.

See if there is any difference with how the system used to run with ST and 4.7 and 'report' any issues if there are any. That is how it should be done as we would never know if there was a problem, so no one would be aware and working on a resolution.

I also recommend that you don't have all your eggs in one basket and use a multi application/level approach to your security (without going paranoid ), stich with your existing set-up if you were happy pre 4.8 leave it and see.

If I were you, I won't worry with keeping ST in real-time in your computer.
Let it only on-demand, as a second opinion and to catch anything that, perhaps, avast misses.
Safe surfing and clean Internet habits are more important than HIPS imho.

Your welcome, I'm glad things are working fine.

Just remember on the firewall front, some have HIPS so you wouldn't want two active HIPS applications running together.

If the firewall has HIPS, which would be best to keep active--the HIPS of the firewall or the HIPS of ST--I am considering Online Armor Firewall and I'm not sure whether it has HIPS.

If you install OA or COMODO, turn off ST HIPS. HIPS of OA or CPF is better.
I use COMODO firewall with HIPS enabled(D+) and ST(real time but with HIPS dissabled).
With OA is the same.
