Intel Proset Lockup after 4.8 install
« on: April 03, 2008, 04:53:42 AM »
Well after the 4.8 update my laptop decided to completely freeze upon startup. Desktop totally locked up and couldn't do anything but hard shutdown with the power button. I've narrowed down msconfig to the intel proset wireless which is conflicting with the startup apps in my taskbar. Anyone else having this issue with the intel proset wireless utility?

- Which OS are you using? Is it up to date?
- Do you use a firewall? Which one?
- Do you have any other antivirus installed in your system?  Did you have in the past?
- Any other security programs that could interfere?
- In XP/Vista, is there any useful information into Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Events, specially 'Errors'?

Could you try to generate a memory dump, as described here ?

Now, I'm not completely sure how the laptop keyboard is connected (whether it's PS/2 or USB internally). The description above applies only to PS/2 keyboards, doesn't work with USB... but I think it's worth trying.

The description should work OK on laptops, unless you're using an external USB keyboard.
