Is there a way, without needing to reboot into safe mode, to remove a large avast debug log that I no longer need?

Is it time for avast to think about the data that needs to be in the avast bunker and that which, like logs reports etc should follow the "Application Data" path?

Just disable the avast self-defense module and you'll be able to delete the log.
I agree that a folder into Application Data won't be bad to housekeeping.

Is it not possible to go into the Program Settings, Logging and set the Log File size limit to something ridiculously small like 4kb or less than your sector size.

That should have the effect of clearing out the majority of the data. This would obviously effect all logs, so after you have done that reset it back to your original size.

I'd rather suggest that you change your log level... Use a less verbose one, moving the slider upwards. Bad information is worse than no information, you've wrote recently

Changing the level Tech won't get rid of the log file, I rather suspect that Alan has already switched back to a non-debug level.

But it will remain small or even will be there.
I have already suggested to just disable the self-protection to delete the file...

I am very surprised that you think that I would put the question if I had not already turned off the self-defense.

I am sure that you know that turning off self-defense only turns off part of it function.  It does not terminate the self defense function.  In particular it does not remove the locking of the avast data files.

Of course I have switched back to non-debug.  I do not want to reduce the size of the setup log.

Maybe the avast team can modify the "special handling" they have put in for the avast4.ini file to include the "log" folder.

Well... don't you do silly things for time to time... who are we if we do not commit mistakes or forget something... I do not surprise with my own mistakes, misunderstandings and forgets

I take it they have removed the log files from the draconian self-defence module then Alan ?

Let's put it this way ... now I can get done what I need to by "disable" of self-defense in Troubleshooting

Now I will no longer need to use the method I worked out to get round this without going into safe mode.
