Detection Log - Rootkit
« on: April 17, 2008, 01:16:00 PM »
Installed a fresh version of Avast after trying out a few other AVs. It detected a Rootkit and asked me if I wanted to delete it, which I did and then did a boottime scan.

My question is. Where is the Log for the Rootkit detection? I tried to save the file info on the rootkit so I could look it up later but my computer shut down to do the bootscan before I had a chance to save the text file.

You can open avast Log viewer and check the Warning section.
You can the boot-time scan report file here: Avast4\DATA\report\aswBoot.txt.

Which is your log level? Where the slider is put?
If you delete the rootkit at first, the bootscan could be clean as you're seeing.

It's set to Emergency Log Level. No need to worry, just would have been nice to know what it was. I'm using Avast 4.8 Free

Set to Emergency you will get very little in the way of logging only Emergency.

Put the Slider on Notice and you will get Notice and every Category above recorded in the respective logs.
