I have discovered a problem with the latest program update (not virus definition update) with Avast. After installing the update (the green box popped up and told me an update was available), I noticed that my entire machine froze when I attempted to burn audio CD's using Roxio's Easy Media Creator 7.1.
When I would drag MP3 files to the project, the entire machine would freeze. It would take 30-40 seconds to recover from it, and only when I shut down Easy CD Creator 7 was I able to "take control" of my PC again.
Fortunately, I had created a Ghost image and I restored my machine to the image I had created back in January. Everything, including Easy Media Creator 7, worked fine. This rolled Avast back to Build Dec. 2007 (4.7.1098).
So I tried it again, updating the anti-virus program again, and, sure enough, my machine froze on me each time I attempted to create an audio CD using Roxio's product. It even took nearly a minute to press <CTRL>-<ALT>-<DEL> to get task manager to show up. Clicking on the START button in Windows took 15-30 seconds to respond.
I once again restored the Ghost image from January (whcih again rolled Avast back to Build Dec. 2007, version 4.7.1098), and this time I ignored the message to update the program, Everything seems to be working fine as before.
I am afraid at this point to update the program now, as it will render my burning software useless and hang my PC. Please let me know what action I can take to ensure this won't happen in the event that I do update the program to the latest build.
