AutoPlay Virus

Ive been chasing a ruddy auto play bug all about my computer for 2 weeks now. Its an AutoPlay popup that runs for about 15 seconds then dies off. It randomly shows up; with no preference in interrupting any paticular program over the other.

I had Avast 4.5 up till the update not to long ago. After updating was finished (RIGHT AFTER!); Avast told me I had a Rookit Virus (?) and went into a restart/auto boot scan thingy. Thats about when I started notcing these Autoplay pop ups. I scanned my comp three times (4.8 version) over night as well as used Spybot-Search and Destroy to find something to catch this pop up BS; nothing.

I scratched Avast off my system and went with the anti virus that is free with my internet carrier; McAfee Security Center. It caught a couple things that Avast didnt but still didnt remove the program thats causing this ruddy Autoplay window.

Ive been reading all through out this forum for an answer but Im not that computer smart by anymeans and havent a clue what most of these threads are saying. I did find a bit on this one .exe called "rundll32" though. I was in my comps task manager seeing if I could pin point which progam was making my computer spaz out and noticed "rundll32.exe" poping in and out of my manager like a rabbit on speed. Further more Ive noticed that while the AutoPlay is running (all 15 seconds of it) the rundll32.exe stays in the manager and switched from my drive "RKJ" to "System" then vanishes as the pop up vanishes.

If you don't have a need for Windows Messenger, you can disable it as follows: Start > Programs > Windows Messenger > Tools > Options > Preferences. Uncheck "Run this program when Windows Starts".

I have Windows Live Messenger yes; but by no means am I an IT person, so this could be my problem. Would removing the C:\Program\Messenger fix everything? Or would I have to work with HJT to get it fixed?

You are using an out of date version of HJT so it would be best to get the latest.

Something I failed to notice on your first log, as I was more concerned that you installed the latest HJT, so I didn't pay much attention to the log. You don't appear to be using avast (now) but McAfee, don't they do support

If avast 4.8 said you had a rootkit, then if that is correct, these tools won't find it as the whole idea of a rootkit it to hide the malware, see end of post.

Other than this I don't see anything obvious.

Now this could just be a redundant entry but it could be something more suspicious so a google for the {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} might reveal something about the owner.

Your JAVA version is out of date, the latest is 1.6.0_05 you need to uninstall the old version and then get the latest version.

Yes DavidR I am using McAfee but Ive found their support useless so far and I find Avasts forum a better alternative. 

I'll see what these rookit scanners bring up and post back.

My Java is outdated b/c one of my collegerlated sites require the older versions to work correctly; something that I dispise but have no choice in the matter if I want to pass my classes >;

You use messenger and its toobar buttons, yes/no ?
If no then you should remove the buttons from the browser and that hopefully should clear the registry entry also. If you first removed the registry entry the button, etc. wouldn't so the correct order would be browser first.

The xpnetdiag.exe is a valid file and there are occasions wher HJT incorrectly states the file is missing, the easy bet is to check the physical location and see if it is indeed missing. Same thin as above about removing extra button (and extra tools) from within the browser if that is the way you wish to go.

Yes I use a messenger, as far as tool buttons; Im assuming webpage tool bar (?), but at the same time not really no.
If you dont find the other entrys to be a threat then I dont care what they do.
