Hi,

can you please try with ashampoo firewall LSP ignored in WebShield.

This means:

1) edit avast4.ini with notepad

notepad "c:\program files\alwil software\avast4\data\avast4.ini"

2) find the section [WebScanner]

3) add the line

IgnoreLsp=spi.dll

4) save, restart WebShield provider

Thanks,
Lukas.

I have not yet modify the avast4.ini as you suggest, since today ... I have no more problem...

I am always in 4.8.1169 version, no modify in ashampoo firewall but since this morning my connection is active and even if have not use internet very much, It seems the problem is ... no more here !

It's very strange since it was present for some days... Have you modify something ?

If the problem come back I will inform you and test the .ini solution ...

Thanks

Thanks, from my analysis, there seems to be a Ashampoo problem with too many concurent connections  (inside WebShield process). The firewall DLL gets confused and starts to return every Winsock api with an error, WebShield retries but with no help, everything fails. The cpu usage comes from the multiple retries, well, surely WebShield might detect this and somehow terminate itself, don't know what is better, but in normal situation retry helps.

Thanks for the advice. I'm also french, with the same config (Ashampoo, Winxp)...and the same problem, just after the last Avast update. So I was glad to try it, and it worked...well, until this morning when I had to disable once again the webshield, disconnect and connect my modem and enable the webshield.

It seems to be just a temporary fix, but I think it could be solved more definitely with a future update, don't you think ?

I've been enjoying Avast for four years, well exactly one year for my old PC - then I switched to Mac and bye bye viruses and trojan ! - and three on my mother's computer, from where I'm writing just now, which is at least once a year infected by a root kit or another worm, even with avast ... But I'm thanking you even because I know without your software it'll be worse.

But her next computer will be a Mac !

Kiduc, could you make a userdump of the ashwebsv.exe process for us?

You must disable SP - in Settings/Troubleshooting. And then when WebShield (ashwebsv.exe) starts to eat CPU, please create a dump for me with the userdump utility

http://public.avast.com/~rypacek/userdump.exe

The command line should be:
userdump ashwebsv.exe

(or from the RUN dialog: cmd /k userdump ashwebsv.exe )

A memory dump will be created in the current folder as a file ashwebsv.dmp. Please upload it to our ftp. I'll have look at it, and hopefully finding the cause ;-) hopefuly.

How to submit a file to our ftp:

I think it's Self Protection (or self defense) module.
