1178 Log Errors
« on: April 11, 2008, 01:40:37 PM »
When I first installed 1178 this morning I then checked on the Avast log viewer and found this, should I be concerned?

Warning:

Application 4294963821
Description: aswServ::AavmStart ERROR...

Error:

Application 4294963821
Description: AAVM - Intialization error: avwork initialize failed, 0000007B.

Seems to be working fine, but I would also like to inform Tech because he had asked me to report back that the icons and link icons even in folders disappear after running a scan of any kind.

I didn't see any warnings after the beta install in either the avast log viewer or the windows event viewer. So I don't know if this is something unrelated to the beta or not.

Try a reboot and see if you get a repeat of the error.

Probably more important have you done a scan and if the icons are functioning correctly ?
The reason I ask is to me it isn't clear, if that is a statement of what Tech asked you to check or that the problem still exists.

I suspect it still exists as aren't you using win98 (and this is more likely a resource issue) ?

The original error is still showing in both the warning and error log with the same time that it occured this morning. So would that suggest it was a glitch the first time around?

Yes, I have done a scan a full scan actually, and not only the quick launch icons but most icons that usually show in normal conditions were gone too.

Yes I use Windows 98 S.E.

Shall I remove these log errors? and is it safe to do so?

1. The entries will remain in the logs as historical info until you clear the logs. The main thing is that the error didn't occur on reboot. So I would think it may just have been a glitch/hiccup.

I tend not to stray into the log viewer unless there is an error actually displayed on the screen or something isn't working in avast. The reason the logs aren't particularly user friendly are more for the analysts to use for debugging a problem.

2 & 3. I didn't expect anything else if it is a problem in win9x and it was still there in the 4.8.1169 I wouldn't have thought 4.8.1178 would make any difference to the win98 resources issue.

There is no need to remove log entries, they can be removed safely though using the log viewer, select the log, File (menu), Delete log.

I think so too, especially when another user has reported the same error messages, and he found it did'nt happen again either!

As I say I am happy that I have an online AV scanner and that is all I wanted really, and I can live with the icon issue as I don't run manual scans to often.

Thanking you Avast and all the team.

So, do I understand it correctly that this error appeared only once in the log - and never again?

Yes you are correct, appeared once and never again, and I don't appear to be having any problems with catching viruses and or updates.

Would this not be perhaps that the program tried to start before I had entered the licence key? just a thought......

It could be indeed.
