It would be best to use logmein.com then.

Let's do it on Monday, OK?

Same problem here, suddenly all web browsers stops working.

Avast is being uninstalled right now and hopefully you are going to figure out this problem, because this is ridiculous such a huge bug is present.

Hi Erroneus.

What OS are you using, and did you have this problem with 4.7?

I was trouble free before upgrading to 4.8.

No problems here with 4.7, it started with 4.8, which also has been giving me problems sending emails through SMTP servers on port 25. Both the final 4.8 and the newest 4.8 beta is giving me problems.

Running Vista SP1, but had the problem before SP1 also. I had the problems with my browser stopped working three times now and I noticed two of the times (didn't check the first time and can't remember precisely when it happened), that Avast did a VPS update just before my browsers stopped working.

Yes. I suspected it may be Vista. But is it Vista 32 or 64?

I am having my problems with Vista 64.

I just had v4.8.1185 come through, so I decided to enable Web Shield and Script Blocking.

I have restarted, and so far, all is fine.

I will keep you informed if the situation stays like that.

Edit: Sorry to get anyone's hopes up.

I just rebooted, and browsing is blocked again.  :'(

Hi dypsis,

however strange it may sound, this is actually good news.

I mean, the worst thing in software engineering  is "ghost bugs". I.e. bugs that only exhibit once, and then they disappear. As there were no changes in build 1185 designed to solve the problem you're describing, it would be actually quite strange if installing this version resolved the issue for you.

Let's do the remote desktop thing tomorrow evening (your time), hopefully, we'll find out what's going on.

Thanks
Vlk

Yes. I should be right to go.

Hopefully, we can sort it out.

BTW. I am not really interested in using a proxy in my browsers as a fix/workaround.

It was just me suggesting that as a temporary workaround until the avast team got round to the issue.  I tried to be clear at the time that this was purely a personal suggestion by me and that I did not represent the avast team.  Now that the avast professionals will be taking a look at your system to diagnose the problem I have no doubt that they will:

1) determine the root cause
2) come up with a solution to return you to the functioning of the Webshield that requires no proxy setting by you.

Good luck with the remote diagnosis session.

So, dypsis, are you ready?

If so, please follow these steps:

1. go to www.logmein.com and click the green button "Sign up for Free trial"
2. fill in the registration form and click Go (you can uncheck the "Keep me informed..." boxes to prevent future spam coming from them)
3. when the Warning - Security dialog pops up, click  "Run".
4. follow the wizard to install the program; when asked for account details, provide the email-address/password used in step 2.

Then send me an email with
1. the email address and password you used in steps 2 and 4
2. the Windows username/password that we can use to connect to your machine

My email address is in my forum profile.

Thanks
Vlk
