Hi dypsis,

please try updating to the latest pre-release build (4.8.1187) and see if it makes any difference

If it doesn't, I'd like to connect to your system once more as in this new release, we have implemented some changes that should allow us better analyse the problem.

Thanks
Vlk

Hi Vlk.

I think the problem is fixed.
I have tried restarts with both Script Blocking and Web Shield enabled with no problem. Both IE7 and Firefox connect real quick.

I will keep you informed of any change, but I am feeling confident.

Thanks for your excellent service.  :)

Glad to hear that.
Please try playing with the reboot a bit more to make sure the problem is really gone - this is the critical moment (boot).

Thanks, and take care
Vlk

PS. you may uninstall LogMeIn now (if you want)... in fact it would be a good idea unless you plan to use it yourself. :)

I got about three and a half hours sleep last night. But it appears that it was worth it.  ;)

And yes, they are an impressive bunch. And great to deal with.  :)

I'm running Vista 32 and I'm having the same problem. When I try to connect, the web page comes up blank. The only way I can connect properly is to shut Avast down. Ive done everything that was suggested in the thread, but its still not working. Any ideas?

We will need more information to be able to help you:
- What avast! version are you using?
- Do you use a firewall? Which one?
- Do you have any other antivirus installed in your system?  Did you have in the past?
- Any other security programs that could interfere?
- Any proxy application (like annonimizers) installed?

You have two anti virus programs installed. They are probably conflicting and causing your problem.

Or you're using both McAfee and Windows firewall and they're conflicting with WebShield.

I'm using ZoneAlarm firewall with Vista Home Premium. Whenever browsers freeze, I terminate Web Shield (Avast 4.8.1169) and restart browsers for them to work properly again. I then start web shield again. Anyway, it sure beats having to reboot computer each time. Anyway, are you saying that upgrading to the latest Avast beta version will eliminate this problem?

It could... but other users failed to solve this problem with the beta version... so, I'm not sure.

Apparently updating to the latest beta version won't resolve the issue. It appears that my problem is more related to topic:

ZoneAlarm Free seems to be incompatible with Webshield component of Avast Anti-virus.
