Avast

Hi guys,

Lately ive been using Antivir for testing reasons against Avast and for the most part has been impressed minus all the False Positives! now I have been greatly debating to return to Avast now when compairing the 2 Avira has a 99.6% detection rate and Avast has a 97% detection rate on the latest test by Av Comparitives.org now my questions are is I have never been able to figure out but does Avast! have Heuristics? or does it only have know signatures? as for the detection rates even though avast is shown behind Antivir I think It greatly makes up for it in sheer number of shield providers and catching up even more with the added funcunality of Anti-Spyware and Anti-rootkit

Hi Justin!
Avast do have a heuristic on a mail checking, all other providers have a "Generic" signatures, that contain a various variants of allready known (but slightly changed descriptions)

Unfortunately Heuristics detection brings with it a much greater chance of False Positives

So do all the others that utilize Heuristics.

I would like to return to Avast, but I can't figure out why my firewall, Arovax, and Clockwise icons don't show up in the sys tray. (Os Win xp)

I've solved the problem with the disappearing icons.
I found a older build of ver 4.7 dated June 03/06 on my hard drive.
I installed it, then updated (huge update) then rebooted and all of my sys tray icons showed up.

My greatest thanks for all of the suggestions.

Update... or upgrade? Do you mean went from 4.7 to 4.8 version? Or did you stay at 4.7?
