Well that really depends on your personal tastes. What one person likes another may not. Many like Ubuntu or one of its variants(like Kubuntu and edubuntu). www.ubuntu.com In fact it  has a major release coming this week (8.04 HardyHeron)

Ubuntu no longer Supports PowerPC  :'( :'( :'( :'(

I like to use the LTS releases and the 6.06 release ran on PowerPC but the new 8.04 has dropped PowerPC support. What a shame it ran great on older machines
