When a New Beta becomes available

I know there is an official version being 4.8.1195 which can be invoked within the GUI of any version that you may have, and I believe the stream changes to the official version and leaves the beta stream, well I hope I have that right...... but my question is when a new beta comes out, will there be a beta link given in the forums, and, will the official version need to be uninstalled to make way for a new installation of a beta should it be available.

I am asking because I happened to stumble on a beta link for some reason the last time, but don't know if that was a mistake or not.

Yes there will in exactly the same way there was one for the last beta and the ones before that. A good incentive to be a regular

There is also a beta sub forum of the avast 4 Home/Pro forum, this is normally open when a beta is under way so as not to clutter the main avast 4 Home/Pro forum.

I need to be a regular really with me having Windows 98 S.E, well you know what I mean.

It is open all the time but you can only read topics when the board isn't open, e.g. when a beta is under way and then people can post (when it is open).

Unfortunately I'm just an avast user like you and don't control when it is open or when a beta runs, so I have to see the notification on the forums.
