Avast 4.8 and scanning for spyware
« on: May 16, 2008, 09:28:57 PM »
Hello,

Today I learned that AVG will no longer be supporting their AVG Antispyware program. This was my favorite anti-spyware/malware program, so I'm really sad to see it go.

I also just found out today that Avast! 4.8 will now check for spyware and malware the way most anti-spy programs do.

My Avast program updated to 4.8 a while ago.. but it looks ~exactly~ like the previous version. My question is.. are there any settings I need to change in order for Avast to check for spyware/malware on my system?

Well the stand alone avg-anti-spyware application hasn't really kept pace since Grisoft bought it from Ewido, there are several better anti-spyware applications than avg-as, which as you say will no longer be supported. Like, SUPERantispyware On-Demand only in free version. Or Spyware Terminator Resident scanner (if you use this don't install the toolbar or crawler or the anti-virus module).

You need change nothing as the anti-spyware is completely integrated itn to avast scanning.
