2 questions on vrdb please
« on: March 27, 2004, 02:59:56 PM »
I don't normally use screensavers and my computer is very rarely idle, so I've been using the 'generate now' button every few weeks to update the VRDB. Is this ok or should I make a point of getting the screensaver?

Also, after reading some older posts I came across something where its possible to change the run interval in the ini file, but it doesnt seem to be listed in mine or is that because I haven't a screensaver yet?

Sorry for all these questions, but a gal's gotta learn  ;D

Thanks a lot, C.

You can select generate vrdb when computer is idle. In this case the vrdb will be created/checked every 3 weeks by deafult.

I might be wrong about the 3 weeks, but someone will jump in very soon if I am.

I don't know if/where you can set the time period in the ini file. But others will tell you.

You can set the VRDB period at avast4.ini file, section [VRDB]. Write a line as follows:
RunInterval=30240
Where the number will be the time in minutes between to runnings of VRDB (default = 21 days = 60*24*21 = 30240)

Take care: if you run VRDB very often and you install software (or update Windows very often) you can store only 'bad' information at the database (VRDB). I think one week is more than necessary.

More information about the avast4.ini file you can see here.  ;)

Idle is meant as not moving mouse around. Doesn't matter if there are running three screensavers at same time ;) ,WinAMP and 5 other programs.
As long as you are not moving mouse,avast! understands this as idle.
