Email download shows email - not found
« on: May 06, 2008, 01:30:26 AM »
Hi
I've been noticing a strange occurrence. I have Avast scanning my email as it comes in. The headers of the email flash by. Once in a while I see a long string of seemingly random characters flash by. When I check my client nothing resembling those characters exist in the client. I have scanned my machine and all seems to be clear.

What could it be?

Is it that fast or you can take a screenshot of it (the headers that flash by...)?
I'm not fully understanding what is happening in your computer...

If you want to there is a way to have avast log this information.

Let us know if you want to try that.

You can create (for a while) a more detailed avast! log of your mail connections.

You can get the mailscanner to log your connections by editing the avast4.ini file (in  Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA folder).  With the new self protection feature it will be best to use Notepad.

In the section headed:

[MailScanner]

add the line:

Log=20

and save the updated file.  When you save the updated file please do not be alarmed by the self-protection feature asking you to confirm that you do wish to make the update.

The log will be in Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\ashmaisv.log.

If you are are willing to post the log here then please take a copy of it (outside the avast folders) and edit it to obscure any personal details before posting it.

You won't see such a mail in your mail client because the subject was not decoded in these popups. It is now fixed in v. 4.8.1195.
