What does Scriptblocker do?
« on: May 16, 2008, 07:23:36 PM »
Now i use the Trial of the pro version for a quiet long time and I have to decide in the near future if I need the Pro of if the Home-version is enough...  ::)

Actually I'm not sure if Scriptblocker works on my system or if it works correctly... ???

I use Vista Ultimate SP1 64bit and IE8 Beta 1 (and Opera, but I know that that isn't supported...)

So here are some questions which I really would like to get an answer to...:

- What does Scriptblocker do?
- Which files should be scanned by scriptblocker?
- Is it normal that it doesn't seem to scan anything on my system although I am on the internet?
- Is it normal that I don't see a splash-screen when I start my IE (although I enabled the "show window at start")?
- Does scriptblocker support IE8 (including the betas)?

Thank you very much guys for helping me :)

It scans the scripts that IE runs. The splash screen appears when you open the IE, if not maybe is not compatible with IE8.

okay, then I think it really doesn't work
(see the picture)

and there also is no splash-screen when IE is started, but I can't remember that it did anything when I used IE7 (I'm sure that the screen at startup of the IE did not appear)...

can it be that its not compatible with Vista?

EDIT: i forgot the picture ;)

As far I know, IE works on protected mode and script blocker isn't scanning the scripts in this mode. In other words, maybe Windows Vista is protecting the scripts to run ??? ???

What does Scriptblocker do?
Which files should be scanned by scriptblocker?
From help file...
Script Blocking provider is a module protecting your computer against script viruses from web pages. Some web pages might contain a script virus. Normally, running such a virus should not have any consequences, because the scripts are run in a protected mode that prevents them from accessing any files. However, there is a theoretical possibility that you might get infected this way (somebody may find a browser bug that will be exploited by the virus). It is the reason for avast! checking the web pages scripts.

Try setting the slider to  normal
From help file...
Normal. The setting does not have any meaning for this provider.
High. The setting does not have any meaning for this provider.
