Please Help

When i go to move my avast to the trash for my mac it says that i cannot continue emptying my trash because com.avast.macavast.mad is still running.  How do i turn it off so i can delete the application?

Also you can quit the com.avast.macavast.mad process using the Activity Monitor if necessary

The best method is:

1) ensure that the app is not in persistent mode (look in Preferences, persistent mode is default on Leopard)
2) quit both application and agent (upper menubar, disabled persistence won't start it again now)
3) put the app to the trashcan

Other methods might cause problems such as remaining items in launchd's list etc.
