[help] Avast 4.8 Home crashed
« on: May 24, 2008, 05:51:56 AM »
Hi

I downloaded Avast 4.8 last night and installed it to my PC and laptop (XP system).
I used AVG 7.5 and have uninstalled it (entered Win Safe Mode and uninstalled the AVG), then installed the Avast after 1st reboot.

Avast works nicely on my laptop. I have no problem ... both scanning (all drives) and updating
Found 3 trojans (AVG said 0  ;D )

But when I used it on my PC, it hanged when I manually scan drive C after 96%. The system stopped.
I reset my PC.
Then I went back to avast icon and clicked the 'start avast! antivirus' ... and it hanged again after the splash screen.

I don't know why, my PC memory is bigger than the laptop, so I think it isn't memory problem.
I've used Avast before on that PC for about a year before I had internet connection. I changed it to AVG because it had the same problem when I connect to the internet. The system hanged.

What should I do to fix it?

Thanks in advance  :)

When the system was frozen, could you move your mouse pointer?

I suggest an installation from the scratch:

1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
2. Boot.
3. Download the latest version of Avast Uninstall and use it for complete uninstallation.
4. Boot.
5. Install again the latest avast! version.
6. Boot.
7. Check and post the results.
