Phantom cd detected in drive
« on: March 29, 2004, 10:56:15 AM »
Hi All,
Last night I had to switch my pc off at the mains as every time I tried to shut it down normally, I got an avast error message saying there was a cd in the the drive. There were no cd's or floppy's in any of the drives. How can I get rid of this pop up message please?
Thanks,
papillon

Go to the program settings, select the "Common" page and uncheck the option "Check CDs in drive when logging off" (or the two similar checkboxes around as well).
Btw, do you have any "virtual CD" software installed that may cause the confusion?

Hi Igor,
I can't find the "Common" page in the program settings, I have the Free version, does that make a difference??
Thanks,

No, it is always there.
In fact, it's the first page in program Settings - i.e. as soon as you open the settings, you are there.

Hi Igor,
Thanks, just found it, hadn't noticed the little icon to bring up the common page.
Thanks again,

Sorry, not sure what a virtual drive is, don't think I have one. However, I did have a usb card reader connected at the time, would that be called a virtual drive??

Virtual drive is a special folder of your HDD that 'simulates' a drive.
The contents of that drive can simulate a real CD.
The question was there because you said you do not have a CD/floppy in the drivers so he guess it was a 'virtual' one.  ;)

Hi Technical,
Thanks for the explanation on virtual drives, I have since discovered that the problem was indeed the usb card reader that avast recognized as a cdrom in a drive.
Manu thanks for the prompt help & info,
