Suddenly GIf and some jpegs wont download.  for example the buttons on this 'Start New Topic' page are either Microsof'ts triangle, square, circle box or red crosses. It seems to be since I did last AVAST setup/program update.
Hve scanned with Avast and antispyware but nothing on system. have 'repaired' IE6 but no better.
Have contacted ISP but no problems their end.

Have cleared temps, cookies and history but still no joy.

This is/was a common problem with IE6 the dreaded red x in place of the pictures, the usual response was to clear your browser cache and reload the page again or to right click on the red x and select view image (or words to that effect).

It has been so long since I used IE6 and experienced that problem, but I doubt it has anything to do with avast as it doesn't block but scans and alerts if the file is infected. So if it were truly an issue with avast then I would expect it to effect all .gif and .jpg images and not just some.

I wouldn't know, IE7 hasn't been granted hard disk space on my system. I would try the clearing of the browser cache (temp internet files) and see if that has any effect.

It's a tabbed browser, the menus/toolbar changed...
I use IE7 but the 'learning curve' is not automatic. You need some time.
It worths due to security and updates.

thanks for all the advice.
Stange thing is I had an automatic Windows update of Silverlight.
I deleted this and rebooted and for some strange reason the machine is as good
as new.
