I am using trial version of avast virus scanner. It tells me that my computer is infected with the following: Win32 Trojan-gen (other), Win32:Lovgate -F (wrm) and Deloder (wrm). I would appreciate any advice as to how to clean these viruses

You can let Avast clean the Malware( start windows in safe mode to clean them). But you should use a special cleaner for the lovegate-f Virus: You can download one from here:
http://www.bitdefender.com/bd/site/virusinfo.php?menu_id=1&v_id=57
Maybe there are some entries leftover from the Maleware you have to clean manual. I do not know what kind of Malware the "trojan-gen" is, because i do not knowthe "realname" of it. You can identify it by using this link:
http://www.kaspersky.com/remoteviruschk.html
If your computer is clean again, you should close your open ports on your Win2000/XP computer, to avoid reinfection!
