Errors in Avast 4.8
« on: May 25, 2008, 02:40:11 PM »
Hi, I'm currently using Avast 4.8 Home and experiencing 2 problems :

1) There are 14 On-Access Protection, which is the 7 (IM, Mail, Network, Outlook, Standard, Web and P2P) protection that are working and also 7 "copies" (i.e IM, Mail, Outlook, etc.) that cannot be selected.

2) The Customize option for each of the protection cannot be opened. A "Access is denied : The operation could not be completed" window appear instead.

What is the problem and solution?

Thanks in advance

Your installation is most certainly messed up with duplicate providers.

A clean reinstall is the best option.
Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.

Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here and save it to your HDD.

Now uninstall (using add remove programs), reboot, run the avast! Uninstall Utility, reboot, install the latest version, reboot.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.2.6105 (build 24.2.8918.824) UI 1.0.799/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

I suggest you to make a new installation, download the manual from the avast  site before installing, it can help you to make the best configuration.

Download the manual from the avast site
There isn't such manual... you can ask here in forums, you can read the help files after installing avast.
