file decrytpion password
« on: June 03, 2008, 05:13:21 PM »
I am new to Avast 4.8
I installed it for personal use and now when I try to open a POP3 email 'attachment' (I have a client sending me a word document). I get a box that says:
File decryption:
                  Enter the password
                  [                         ]
X  Open the file after decryption

NOTE if you forgot the password, the Supervisor Password can be used instead.

I have tried the only password I would have ever used when setting this up and it doesn't work. HELP! I need to know where to go to either RESET the password OR find out what it is!!!!
Please help me.
John

avast does not add, change or do anything with attached files. It only scans it, and if the file has a password, avast won't even be able to scan it (avast does not use brute force to decrypt files to be scanned).
Are you sure this file is not infected?
Can't you ask the password to your client?

You are right. Just by chance the first email I tried to open with the new avast installed, was an encrypted email from a new client. I apologize for any problems with this question and appreciate your super fast response!!!!!!!!!!!!!
