About the "right click scan"...
« on: June 05, 2008, 12:25:16 AM »
Hi!
In the help menu I read that in contrast to avast! Professional Edition - avast! Home Edition doesn't support the option "Storing the scan results".
When I want to scan a certain file (or folder), the only thing I can notice is a quick window that dissapears immediately... and that is! (especially if I'm scanning a small file or folder)
It's not a problem at all as far as the certain file is OK, but I'd just like to ask if there is something wrong (virus or etc.) - if then that scan result however is storing anywhere?... Or at least whether I will be informed about possible treat before closing the scan window?...
Thanks in advantage!

First the storage of scan results is for the Simple User Interface on-demand scan and not right click scan (ashQuick.exe). The whole purpose of the quick scan is that it is quick, it doesn't display results by default if no infection is found. If an infection is found, all hell will break loose and you will know.

If however, you want to se these results, Program Settings, Common, 'Show results of Explorer Extension.'

Sure, you'll see the virus warning message.

Precisely the answer I was seeking.  Thank you.

Although for users new to the program it would be awfully helpful and comforting if this function would display a "No viruses found" with a check box to never show that result again.

You're welcome.

That suggestion is however, out of my power as an avast user like yourself.

If you're scanning with the Windows Explorer extension, there is an option to show the results.
If you're running withing Windows (the antivirus itself), you'll be shown a report at the end.

Thanks guys.  Now that I know the default is to show nothing when all is OK, I'm happy with that.

My suggestion above would undoubtedly ease New Users into accepting the delights of avast.

I have used Avast for a few years and was also quite frustrated by the lack of feedback when using the right click scan.  I also wondered if the scan was working properly and if I was being notified of the presence of a virus.  I keep my sound turned off, so the heart stopping noise that Avast makes when a virus is found was lost on me.  But ... I did conclude that Avast was working when I finally received my first virus alert.

I don't regularly visit these forums and had been overwhelmed by trying to absorb all of the information in the Avast Help files.  Fortunately, I finally "got it" and figured out how to change the settings so I now receive scan results with the right click scan.  An easy solution would be to make the display of the scan results a default setting for Avast.  However, I can't find on the main Avast site how users' requests for features should be sent to Avast.

I suppose that we could open "support tickets" explaining why we are so baffled at times and ask them to consider modifying the software to address our concerns.  I love using Avast over more "bloated" software, but because it isn't as widely distributed as something like Symantec it is frustrating trying to understand how the software works without taking the time to seek advice on a support forum.

You can turn on the report even when the scanning returns clean.

Well, there are users that complain of that report. There are users that complain about not having it. So, Alwil team let the configuration to be set... really, it's difficult to make everyone happy... ::)
