Where can I see what the scan Error numbers are
« on: June 08, 2008, 08:52:02 PM »
I have the same problem as the previous post in that the scan comes to an unforseen halt but it also tells me I have 474 warnings so far (virtually new iMAC ??) and I thought I ought process them. There are 2 problems, firstly I don't know what the error no's are (nearly all err 13, a couple of 42110 and a couple of 60's) and secondly, if I click on the err 30's & 60's the 'fix it' and 'move it' icons are not active so what do I do with them.

I have Time Machine running, is Avast clashing with it? If so, what should I do to get the scan completed. I am very new to the MAC so any advice (and patience) will be very much appreciated

There is very little documentation for Avast for Mac so far, so I don't know where you can look up.

Err 13 is a permissions error. Avast does not have read access to the file. Nothing to be worried about. But I don't know about the rest of the errors.

Hallo,
these errors... hm, next version will translate it to "human readable" strings (although the number will be still kept, because is more accurate). There are basically 2 kind of errors - small numbers (= system errors), and numbers >42000 (avast's internal error set). Here's their exact meaning:

1) System errors (permissions, resources etc.):

1               /* Operation not permitted */
2               /* No such file or directory */
3               /* No such process */
4               /* Interrupted system call */
5               /* Input/output error */
6               /* Device not configured */
7               /* Argument list too long */
8               /* Exec format error */
9               /* Bad file descriptor */
10              /* No child processes */
11              /* Resource deadlock avoided */

14              /* Bad address */
15              /* Block device required */
16              /* Device busy */

Thank You!

I have been trying to find these error codes for quite some time.

Any word when the next version will be released?

Thanks for putting the error no's up but it has left me even more confused. I turned off Time machine and ran a scan again and it failed at the same spot with 2 error boxes. One says "The file  scan daemon died scanning path 1 of one paths (0 remains) " and the other says " The application com.avast.MacAvast.MAD quit unexpectedly". It also says it has found 473 items with 480 not processed. The vast majority of these are err 13 with a description

part of package: does not belong to any package and a file name similar to  these 2 examples

"/.fseventsd/000000000000032c"
"/.fseventsd/00000000001f8bd8"

Does "err 13 - permission denied" mean that Avast cannot check them? Surely that is a fundamental issue with a virus checker?

What should I do next ? Is it time to abandon Avast and move on?

What do they mean? I am new to the MAC and I am not used to file names looking like that?

Hi Zilog,

I have just seen the instructions to download a different com.avast.macavast.mad in the previous "crash" thread so I tried but when I came to copy the new version into resources it told me I didn't have the right privileges. What am I doing wrong?

Hallo,
the original binary is probably running. You must quit the avast and agent before doing then copy. Then, Finder will ask you for your password.
