Write access to registry key denied
« on: June 06, 2008, 06:09:43 PM »

I have been getting the following message after the updates:

Write access to registry key  Registry\Machine\System\ControlSet001\Services\Aswmonfit denied

This is recent (since the past couple of weeks)

What is this?  Is this something that needs to be fixed?

My system specifics:
OS  Vista basic SP1
Ad Aware
Spybot
Zone Alarm

It is a 'notification' only something is accessing the avast registry key with write permission and avast's self-defence doesn't allow that and downgrades the access to read.

These pop-ups are suppressed but for some reason on Vista SP1 this suppression doesn't seem to work, this is in hand but I have no idea how long this might take to resolve. Though the main thing is that there is nothing to be concerned about and nothing that you can actually do to stop them or whatever it is that is the cause (write access to the avast registry keys), so there is nothing to be fixed.

A forum search about this will reveal a number of topics about this.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

The important thing is to check which application is trying to change avast files/registry keys.
Check here: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\selfdef.log
Please, post back.
