Avast causing blue screen in vista 64 bit
« on: June 11, 2008, 11:15:33 AM »
Hi, I'm running a clean install of Vista x64 with the latest version of Avast Home.

On booting to windows more often than not my PC is blue screening with an error in relation to trying to write to read only memory.

Windows detects the problem as being the anti-virus software but can't offer a solution.

On googling it appears that there are a few other's having this problem but I have yet to find out how to fix it.

Can anyone help?

I love Avast but if I can't fix this I'll have to put something else on.

Thanks,

Chinster.

if you uninstall avast! antivirus it works again without bluescreens?

some things which cause a bluescreen at windows startup:
- probably it's an incorrect installation of vista...
- broken hardware (RAM,...)
- overclocked CPU

Dunno, but I'm going to uninstall it now, the blue screens are getting annoying.

This is the beggar mentioned in the blue screen:

aswrdr.sys

That's an avast file, right?

Yes it is. Did you try to disable the rootkit scanning at startup? Go to Troubleshooting tab of settings.

I'm afraid aswrdr.sys doesn't have anything to do with the rootkit scan.

The fact that this file is mentioned in the blue-screen doesn't really mean that the problem is there. Do you have any minidump files in Windows/Minidump folder? (there should be one for each bluescreen)

Hi Igor, I've uninstalled Avast and no blue screens since.  I'll check the minidump folder when I get home after work.

Sorry, my fault.
