Server Migration
« on: May 22, 2008, 10:27:40 PM »
Hi.

We're retiring a server. It's our primary Avast 4.7.xxx server. We have a mirror on another server.

The current [to be retired] server is running Windows Server 2003 R2. The same for the new one [but faster, biggers, etc...  ;D ]

What is the procedure to migrate from one server to the other? [Too bad no KB on this.]
Anything needs to be done with the clients?

Thanks

Gis

So this server is running ADNM and the AMS right?

If so use the AMStool.exe in c:\program files\Alwil software\Management tools.

Take a backup of the database!

Do a fresh install of ADNM and restore the database, remembering to import the license.dat with the amstool.

You`ll need to also do a discovery but all the machines should look for a new AMS if they can't connect to the old one. If you can give the new server the same ip or name as the old to make it even smoother.

Hope this helps.
