Exchange 2007 on Server 2008 64bit Virtual Machine??
« on: February 26, 2009, 04:18:35 AM »
After searching the forums I haven't found an answer that solves this problem yet...

We have Exchange 2007 on Server 2008 running as a Virtual Machine on VMWare.  If I restart the machine the Exchange Store doesn't get mounted, in fact the Exchange services do not even start up.

If I shut off the avast services (make them manual instead of automatic) and reboot the machine, then Exchange comes up just fine.

I have checked the Exchange 2007 check box on the ADNM On Access Scanning Tasks Default Resident Task, and then "apply to Computer", but still can't get Exchange and avast to both come up after a reboot.

Any ideas???

I should also mention that the ADNM is on a Server 2003 32bit, if that makes any difference.

Hi,

Could you set store service as manual and run it after full system boot up.

Hi Minnarky

I had the same problem but the version of avast on my server is not managed by ADNM.

My config: VMware ESXi, Windows Server 2008 Standard, Exchange 2007, avast server edition v4.8.1059

Solution: under avast program settings > Troubleshooting > enable "Delay loading avast services after other system services"

I am not sure if you can manage this setting with ADNM but I hope you can find a way to do this and that this will solve your problem. If so, ALWIL should turn this setting on by default for the Exchange 2007 plugin.

Thanks Mojo, I will try that.  I did try to set the avast services to delayed start using the services.msc on the server, but that gave me an error message saying they could not be delayed.  I will look in the ADNM and see if I can find that setting there somewhere.

I had the exact same problem.  The server installation ran and the Exchange addin has not been configured yet.  Avast is stopping exchange from mounting the store because it wants to be started before hand to check for viruses.

Click on AVAST! OnAccess Protection and click on the Exchange addin and configure it.  When done you should be able to start the store again.

Details on Server 2008 install are on my blog.

This may help.  I beat my head bloody and then got it to work.  I documented my steps in my blog.
