AHHH!!! Drive by download from using google?
« on: June 15, 2008, 04:20:41 AM »
Well... this is odd.  I was googling sprint.  (using google.ca) and all of a sudden avast pops up saying a virus has been detected and I should abort connection.

Here is the event log.

14/06/2008 6:35:39 PM   SYSTEM   1748   Sign of "VBS:Malware-gen" has been found in "" file.

Even if I kept aborting connection the pop up kept coming up.   So I closed the window.  Cleared my temp files.  I was using firefox 2.0.0.14

What do I do about this?

First of all disable the URL, leading to the malware - it is dangerous to post such URLs active. Insert a space somewhere in the URL that nobody could occasionally click it.

Then you could scan your PC completely with Avast. The virus you detected infects AUTORUN.INI files on hard and USB drives so the system doesn't let them open.

May the FOSS be with you!

I did a full scan with Avast! normal level +ARCHIVE FILES (through takes 5 hours and only had 2)  then I scanned with Malware byte's anti malware.  Both said no infections.  I guess Avast! protected me.
