Problem in Function setifaceUpdatePackages
« on: June 19, 2008, 09:09:42 AM »
Hi there!,

I'm using Avast (MAy 2008 - 4.8.1201) and never had seen this message:

Code: [Select]
19/06/2008 8:39:04 1213857544 SYSTEM 1704 Function setifaceUpdatePackages() has failed. Return code is 0x00000001, dwRes is 00000001.
19/06/2008 8:39:05 1213857545 SYSTEM 1704 An error has occured while attempting to update. Please check the logs.
I saw this in  C:\Archivos de programa\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\Warning.log file.

How can i fix this?

Thx! \o

Try fix it by Repair avast going Add and Remove Programs>Avast>Repair(scroll down and you will see the repair function)

It will be good to repair the avast installation.
Anyway, don't worry that much. This is just verbose of the logs. Your antivirus protections seems ok.

Well, i also have seen the option [About...] where it's the version program and virus database (vdb). The virus database is not updated, i repeat, is NOT UPDATED!! :(

I had reinstalled the avast virus program and nothing :(

I reinstalled the avast antivirus program and the problem is not solved

Please, post the last 200-250 lines of avast log: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\Setup.log

Also, which firewall are you using?

I know you have reinstalled and in theory that should have resolved this, but it might be worth trying a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. Now check the about avast and see what is reported.

I don't know if it might be that the VPS version contained within the new installation of avast is 080611-0 so an update would be needed.

Is there a pop-up from the Windows Security Center reporting the AV out of date, which I would expect if the VPS was that old, e.g. over a week old. Also check your system date and ensure the day month and year are correct.

If the repair doesn't resolve this problem and a reinstall didn't the only thing I can think of is that the reinstallation isn't completing correctly. So a clean reinstall might be worth a try.

Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.

Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here and save it to your HDD.
1. Now uninstall (using add remove programs, if you can't do that start from the next step), reboot.
2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, reboot
3. install the latest version, reboot.

i uninstalled avast with the uninstaller program from avast web site(in safe mode),it worked okey, closed program and it said that i must restart for some files to be deleted.. i restarted computer..it shuts down fine and restarted but while the windows is starting it ended with a blue screen and restart. after restart a reinstalled avast with the newly downloaded avat ... but nothing changed.. my avast vps is reporting that its  080611-1  but there is a red box at right lower corner of my monitor saying "an error has occured while attempting to uptade...."...    but the update log says that

 Vps: Already up to date
  (current version 080627-0)

what i understood was avast is using vps:080611-1 but somehow while it is updating it thoughts that 080627 is smaller than 080611....so it stops the update process

by the way: windows is warning me that my virus database is old....(correctly)

i think there is a problem with the current installer file..

also i started to get blue screen and restarting after i reinstalled avast although i uninstalled it again after the first blue screen and reinstalled it.

This is certainly a weird one, one I haven't come across before.

If the VPS is reporting that avast is up to date yet about avast reports 080611-1 and WSC reports out of date, I wonder if the WSC is also an issue.
Try this if you are using winXP:
Quote
* Click Start, Run and type CMD.EXE

* Type this command and press Enter:

net stop winmgmt

* Using Windows Explorer, rename the folder %windir%\System32\Wbem\Repository. (For example, %windir%\System32\Wbem\Repository_bad.). %windir% represents the path to the Windows directory, which is typically C:\Windows.

* Switch to Command Prompt window, and type the following and press ENTER after each line:

net start winmgmt

EXIT
Reboot

What other security software do you have installed, I don't know if it might have an impact ?
