v 4.8 NEW ULTRA,TURBO,HYPER PROTECTION
« on: June 22, 2008, 07:11:46 PM »
hi
upgrading to v 4.8,and whats happen:
-red circle on icon,
-not possible ,make any changes in program options(eg.turn off self protection),because after this, avast back to  original state(program remove checkmarks, itself),
-not possible make changes to .ini files(data folder)-access denied,
-not possible uninstall, from controll panel(after click, only hour glass is visible for 2-3 sec)
-not possible using uninstaller, because if i go to safe mode system hangs on the middle loading drivers(before upgrade sys working 100 % fine)
-if i tray run AV,I GET THE MESSAGE"problem accessing files" or "problem access data base"
in my opinion, looks like self protection ,"protects "everything
because uninstall is not possible in my situation,i manually remove registry, files etc.,
then i run,uninstaller....make clean install...(DISABLE OTHER APPS IN STARTUP)and back to the same point
win XP-SP 3,4GB RAM,zone alarm firewall,comodo boclean
version AV 4.7 working fine for one year...no problems
any suggestions, very welcome....thanks(sorry for my English)

WinXP (i assume 32bit) and 4GB. This is where most of problems start, though it might be something else...

Boot into safe mode, use avast! Uninstall utility and try installing it by using latest installer from www.avast.com

I suggest an installation from the scratch:

1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first. Maybe in Safe Mode like RejZor said.
2. Boot.
3. Download the latest version of Avast Uninstall and use it for complete uninstallation.
4. Boot.
5. Install again the latest avast! version.
6. Boot.
7. Check and post the results.

You don't read my post correctly -IS NOT possible using uninstaller, because if i go to safe mode system Hanging on the middle loading drivers(before upgrade AV sys working 100 % fine).....means safe mode option NOT WORKING,
-if i go to controll panel-uninstall-click on AV,  -not possible uninstall, from controll panel(after click, only hour glass is visible for 2-3 sec)...means NOT working,i can`t disable this "self protection" because AV ignore this (in program option)
only  <full protection>.....working....not for me
thanks, for traing help me with this

Then try "Last known good setting that worked" (or something like this) in menu where you select Safe mode (F8).
Or simply use System Restore if you have it enabled (select checkpoint before avast! updating itself). This will most probably restore avast! and system to pre 4.8 state. Then uninstall it and install 4.8 from scratch.

means safe mode option NOT WORKING
Well... something is deep wrong. Safe mode is thought to not load any problematic driver/software... Didn't you change any hardware in last days?
If you execute ashdisp.exe, can you right click the 'a' blue icon, Program Settings, Trobleshooting, Disable self-defense module?
