avast 4.8 and my problem with it.
« on: July 18, 2008, 07:24:57 AM »
Here is my problem.  I have a system running Vista and prior to getting this new computer i used avast for years on XP with no problems.  Now i have this new computer and everytime avast begins to load after booting up i get this pop up stating that the avast gui has stopped working and would i like to search for a solution online.  we all know searching for a solution online via MS is pointless.  another problem occours with the occasional BSOD when avast starts to load during startup.

my system stats:
Pentium 4
2GB Ram
Vista Ultimate
80GB HD that is empty aside from Vista

Let me know if you need more info and where i can find it so hopefully i can get avast working properly, as I do not like the others i've tried since this problem started in June.

Thanks for your help
Dan

The is the true culprit, faulting module wdmaud.drv, ashDisp.exe just happened to be using it at the time of the crash.

wdmaud.drv is a WDM Audio driver mapper from Microsoft Corporation belonging to Microsoft® Windows® Operating System

What to do about it that is the question, as I don't use Vista I don't know if this is easily resolved (update to SP1 if you haven't already done so perhaps). Or just keep monitoring the situation and document what you were doing if it happens again.

You could also try, Program Settings, Troubleshooting section and check, 'Delay loading of avast services after other system services.'
