Avast not scanning anything
« on: July 05, 2008, 09:40:44 PM »
Hello, I have the last version of Avast 4.8 Home, my OS is Vista 64 bit. I installed Avast and for some time it worked fine, however when I launched it a week or so ago, it showed the splashscreen with "testing memory" and then nothing happened, the button to stop memory test didn't work either, I had to abort the application to get rid of it. The on-access scanner seems to work fine, but if I launch avast itself bypassing the splashscreen and start a scan of my disk the counter of scanned files stays at 0, the button to stop the scan does nothing besides a clicking sound and I have to abort the application again. I'm not sure if it has something to do with it, but just before this problem appeared windows installed some of its updates, though since I haven't ran the scanner for a week before that I can't pinpoint the time when the problem appeared. I didn't change any avast or windows settings or install anything major during this time (except a game Star Wars Empire at War)
Any suggestions?

Any other antivirus before using avast?
Did you try to repair your installation through Control Panel?
An installation from scratch help?

The on-access scanner seems to work fine
How many providers do you have running? (put the mouse over the 'a' blue icon).

I believe the latest pre-release fixes this problem.
