 :)  Hi :

We usually start by asking the Name of your previous antivirus program and
"steps" you used to COMPLETELY REMOVE IT !? Did you use its
"Removal Tool/Uninstall App" IF One exists ?

Not to disappoint ;D
Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.4.6112 (build 24.4.9067.762) UI 1.0.803/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Hi

Had AVG free before , used uninstall from programs & features in control panel. Did repair as suggested .Still  the same ,also just noticed security centre says Avast! reports that it might be out of date , but have updated it via the icon & it says vps is up to date

Please try to update to the latest pre-release build:

The problem should be fixed there.
