Wow
« on: July 07, 2008, 08:22:21 PM »
Ever since I did a boot scan and to Avast to delete what it found, I can no longer open a command prompt or add remove programs or anything in the Control panel for that matter.  When I directly to the cmd.exe it asks what program i want to open it with.  How screwed am I?

You should never direct delete anything but rather send to Chest to further analysis (and eventually restoring, know the file name and paths, etc.).
You seem, better, the virus seems to have messed your file associations.
Hope someone that has more knowledge on cleaning/restoring give you a help.

My first time with avast.  Thought it would be safe to let it do its thing.  I'm using ERD to put the reg key back.  Hopefully that will work.  If that doesn't do it I'll try ERD's system file util as well.

Putting the reg key back with ERD worked.  Thanks for the heads up David.  Now...on to the infection.
