I am just curious because I just installed OnlineArmorFree Firewall and noted that the free version does not protect against keyloggers.

I am so pleased that AvastHome does protect against Keyloggers--this is such a great app.  I have been using it on some modern and old computers and it works equally well.

The other day it caught two trojans when I was downloading some files--he sirens went off, it stopped the download, and asked me what to do. It was a very dramatic moment.  It felt so secure to know that Avast was there when needed.  Woefully, my other antispyware realtime app didn't even notice that the trojans were entering the system.

I came here about to ask this same question. I need to help a friend with some potential computer problems this weekend. I suspect that someone has installed a key logger on her system. I was thinking of taking a CD with the latest Avast!, Spybot S&D, and Spyware Terminator on it. I figured those three together could take care of just about anything I'd run into.

I suppose you will 'install' them as they won't run in the CD...
I suggest you test SuperAntispyware also.

SuperAntiSpyware is a great application to detect and clean many nasties, just don't expect it to find/eliminate keyloggers. The developer of SAS didn't want to include keylogger detections.

@Tech: Yes, I plan on installing them.

@Firebytes: That's interesting that the developer for a program called Super Anti Spyware wouldn't want to have it detect key loggers which are truly spyware. It seems like that's exactly the sort of thing someone running anti-spyware would want to find!

OK, I was slightly mistaken. SAS will detect some keyloggers packaged with malware but it will not detect commercial keyloggers. Search the forums at Wilders Security, the developer has posted there many times concerning this.

This is a quote from the developer posted on Wilders Security Forums (see post #11 here http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=178774):

"We (SUPERAntiSpyware) specifically don't detect the commercial keyloggers as they are used by many companies, etc. for legitimate purposes. We may add them in the future as "warning/notification" rules/definitions."

So unless they have changed their minds and I just didn't hear about it then they do not detect many keyloggers.

I asked their support team and they confirmed this. Apparently they don't think that commercial key loggers are "harmful", so they don't detect them. What a load of hooey. It's silly to make assumptions about how a tool is going to be used. What's to stop someone from using a commercial application for purposes other than what was originally intended? This is just ridiculous.

I'd rather the software was marked as a keylogger and the user could add it to the Exclusion list. By the way, I can't be in favor of a keylogger, can I?
