Simple Question.
« on: July 10, 2008, 09:06:42 PM »
Hello. Just wanted to ask a question regarding avast! 4.8 and uTorrent 1.8. I've read previous posts about how they may conflict in the past. My question is that will avast! 4.8 conflict with the latest version of uTorrent (RC1)?

Thanks all.
-Eric. ;)

Eric, I think so... this seems to be an internal issue of utorrent (its way of managing connections/files) and avast can solve it IN SOME PARTICULAR SYSTEMS/CONFIGURATIONS. I'll suggest you try if you're into the lucky ones.

Thank you, Tech, for the prompt reply.

I have the P2P Shield on in Avast! 4.8 (latest version) for uTorrent. I haven't been experiencing any problems... just a dip in speed at times.

What would your suggestion be? If it is disabling the P2P shield then it's fine with me. Just need to know what's going on.

Thanks.

Be used to avast forums speed.

If it is working and utorrent is working, keep it on.
If utorrent crashes, or use too much CPU, or avast uses too much CPU while utorrent is downloading, then disable utorrent into P2P avast settings and scan every file after your download.

Hm. 2GB should be enough for all my daily stuff.

I'll give it a shot. But not right now.

Tech, since you know a bit about uTorrent, I have another question.

For BitTorrent's DNA "feature", does it truly 'boosts' the speed of downloads.

If this is not the place to post this question, then you have my apologies.

For every file? :P

Spybot-Search&Destroy 1.6.0.30 released. Much faster scanning and improved protection.

Edit: Around some hours later. Tech, I was wondering, if disabling the P2P will speed up downloads. Thanks.

 8)
just to add the information which Eric posted in this thread about the new version of spybot 1.6. the spybot search and destroy conflicts with adware freeware and IMHO I realized the adware is more effective than the spybot, but I'm no t sure. what do you think about it? I'd appreciate your helpful hints.what is the best freeware antimalware  combination with avast 4.8?Best Regards. thanks.

Indeed, I cannot trust ad-aware anymore... too low detection rate.
Spybot is for specific spywares, so I let it in my computer. Also for the immunization.
I suggest SuperAntispyware and SpywareTerminator. I gave up on a-squared due to that much false positives.
