i would suggest a clean installation of avast!

1. uninstall avast! via the control panel
2. use the uninstall tool (http://avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html)
3. restart the computer
4. reinstall avast!
5. restart the computer
6. it hopefully works now...

yours

This error message has cropped up before and it is possible that your system is infected (Beagle) and it is directly effecting avast.

This however shouldn't happen (more difficult) with the latest version of avast which has a self-defence module.

So what version of avast do you have, the latest is 4.8.1201 ?
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.2.6105 (build 24.2.8918.824) UI 1.0.799/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Indeed, there are some variants of Bagle/Beagle that corrupts the latest avast versions.
Alwil team had to choose a balance between a hardened self defense module (and incompatibilities) and protection.
