No Automatic Updates
« on: July 14, 2008, 03:43:28 PM »
I downloaded and installed Avast 4.8 Home Edition and in order for me to get updates I must do it manually. I cannot get automatic updates. Can someone help me?

You can only get automatic updates if you have a registration key.

Register avast! Home here: http://www.avast.com/eng/home-registration.php

Also, make sure that you have the update settings the way you like it. And, if avast! doesn't seem like its updating, it perfectly normal. Automatic hits when it does (usually early after bootup, other times later).

I did  not have it registered! I just registered it and surprised to see the key come back within 5 minutes. Thats service!
I will not do a manual virus update and see how long it takes for an automatic update to come down.
Thanks to the both of you for your help.

Regards,
Mr. Pumpkie

avast Log Viewer on 'Warning' section will show the automatic updates that took place.

The windows event viewer, anti-virus section gets the info from the same source ;D avast. Personally I can't see a reason to get an other program to replace what is already there even if it looks pretty, I just don't use the windows event viewer enough to warrant it.

I know the updates for the Avast AV run on a time interval, but what about notifications about updated program files? Seems I have to manually run the program update. VERY seldom does Avast tell me that a new version of the program is available. Thanks!
