Really, Tech? In what way?

I just gave it a test run, so I plan to perform a full scan tonight, just for the heck of it.

Last time I ran it, AdAware detected one MRU. What a waste of 2 hours of my life. :P

That's one of the reasons I've dropped Ad-aware...

A waste of bandwidth and time. And concentration.

Don't know why so many users are using AdAware. Lavasoft "promises" so much... just the exact opposite.

It even promotes registry cleaners. Not good news. The next thing users find after using it is Windows can't boot.

Welcome back Tech
we were trying to tread water till you responded to the on topic p2p question

Ad-aware
I might use it as an on demand scanner to help identify/ clean an infected system and then remove
too much bloat for regular use
no protection in the free version and better solutions available
sorta same answer for A-squared
I think a Host file is an essential tool in addition to Active-X protection and restricted sites file
these take little resources and are free- what's not to like?
Spyware Blaster is best known for its Active-x  sites set kill bit capabilities
I am not sure of its Restricted Sites Capabilities- do a before and after peak and let us know
ZonedOut is good for looking at Restricted Zone entries:

Kenny- how many unique separate entries do you get with the different Host files
Do you merge Spybot Host entries also?
(I see you are removing duplicates)
thanks
I have 63,784 entries with a few of my own and I don't use the Spybot S&D HOSTS file entries.

I have not been staying up with restricted sites technology since I am not a big IE user- just for updates and a few programs that will not open with firefox
also I have not looked at spyware blaster versus Windows whatever as a source of active X blockers

Using Zoned Out to install IE spyads wiped out other restricted entries- was that correct?

I wonder if spybot has any unique hosts entries- might be interesting to check

those of you following this thread running Windows 2000 - there is a know problem with large host files
and a known fix

thanks for the memory jog YO
