Need some help
« on: July 22, 2008, 09:41:41 PM »
Hi peoples.

I got a problem, the thing is, I installed Avast less then a month ago and everything seemed to work as it should.
But about a couple of days ago I noticed I have lost my Administrator Rights as the only loggin on my computer and the only Admin, which I found very strange, I started to search and ask friends of mine if they knew what the problem is but the days went by, till a friend visited my place and started to "investigate" the whole thing. And what he discovered was that the 30 of June I lost my admin rights (even though I  am still the Administrator) and that was the date I installed Avast.

So my problem is thanks to Avast I am the Admin but dont have any rights any more...

And what I would like to have help with is if anyone knows what I can do to get them back and if it is a common thing that the previliges as the Admin is taken away from you?

I am still the Admin but lost my rights
I have only 1 loggin which is this one
And the black screen that pops up for less then a second is named "C:\Windows\System32\consent.exe"
if this is of any use

Have you tried booting is safe mode and go into user accounts, then try and make that account with admin rights.

Firstly avast! doesn't touch your administrator rights. It scans and alerts to infection it doesn't block or lower rights. So I don't know why this is the case.

You should have more than one account, there should be the account you are using and 'the administrator account' certainly that is the case on XP Pro and XP Home, but with XP Home you can only log-on to 'the administrator account' from safe mode.

See http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=consent.exe, there are lots of hits relating to this and Vista UAC.

If you have Vista unfortunately I can't be of any practical help as I don't use it.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 23.4.6062 (build 23.4.8118.762) UI 1.0.762/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

avast can't change the user status in Windows... neither UAC state in Vista...
Why do you think you were an administrator?
