installation error 1006

Hi,
First I attempted to save to desktop and install. avast 4 home. It installed all the way to the end and gave an error unable to complete setup. Then I tried again and I get error 1006 unable to install. last performed operation was opening the self extracting archive. I have downloaded from majorgeeks, downloads.com and avast.com. I even tried to download and install the spanish version. I have windows ME with 128mb ram p4 processor and 20gig of hdd space. No firewalls and no av programs,

PS I tried to upload the file to the suggested virus checking program in one of your threads and it said file to large. I also deleted all temp files and all temp internet files and did a disk cleanup.

Was there an AV program you used before trying to install avast?

Some infections avoid antivirus installations...
Did you have any other antivirus in the past?

The pc is a sony vaio that came with mcafee but I uninstalled it and ran a registry cleaner to make sure it was out. I will give dr web a try and see what happens. I really have not been on the net since the install of ME. I did windows updates and installed office 2000 and that is it.
