I am a newcomer to computers (a recycled teenager over 60 ::))...just purchsed Registry Mechanic and having problems installing Registry Mechanic due apparently (according to RegistryMechanic support) to Avast being over zealous.

Apparently I have to add Registry Mechanic into the AQvast seccurity software ignore list.

I have no idea how to do this.

Would some kind sole take pity on this ole girl and tell me exactly how to do it?

It would bemuch appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.
Can you tell us exactly what error or message your getting that would warrant this action?
I have Ashampoo's Registry Mechanic on my system but don't have any need to allow it
any exceptions.  ???

Immediately I downloaded Registry Mechanic up came Avast saying I had a Trojan.   I then selected to send it to Chest as this was one of the options that came up.   I then proceeded to pay for the program.

Then I went back to my Downloads and clicked on Registry Mechanic and up came Avast again saying the same thing.  I then deleted the whole download.

I have contacted Registry Mechanic and they have kindly given me the instructions of how to do things to install it again and they told me that all I have to do is to "add Registry Mechanic into your security software'e ignore list."

This is all I want to know...how do I "add to the security software ignore list."   I could not find out how to do it when I clicked on my Avast icon.

Any help appreciated. ::)

Doesn't make sense.

Are you saying that the downloaded file of PC Tools Registry Mechanic 7 or 8 was quarantined by avast?

Did you download from http://www.pctools.com/registry-mechanic/version7/ or http://www.pctools.com/registry-mechanic/ ?

I'm having the same problem also but not Registry Mechanic(other registry cleaner) and avast detected it as a trojan or even a worm too.

Which is the file name and path?
Which is the virus detected?

Well there was a false positive on Registry Mechanic at the end of June that was fixed, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=36610.0.

@ rehandra
If you make sure that you have the latest version of the avast VPS (virus signatures) and see it it is still detected.

I'm on the latest version 8.0 Registry Mechanic and still have no problems with the latest update on the Avast and the VPS, also I still have the old version 7.0 on my spare laptop and still have no problems.

Already did the last Anti-virus scan on the laptop 2 weeks ago, I believe you may have a none dirty licence copy ;) of Registry Mechanic might trigger you the nasty habit you might have.

Better submit to VirusTotal and if confirmed to check before sending the sample to Avast.

You should really have this on its own topic as it is confusing the original topic on a possible FP on Registry Mechanic.
