Segmentation fault with Ubuntu 8.04
« on: July 29, 2008, 01:11:45 PM »
I installed Avast on my Hardy Heron desktop last night. No trouble installing, but I get a segmentation error when I run a scan, even if I run it as the superuser, with or without the GUI. For example:
Jul 29 11:00:45 marvin kernel: [175511.388261] avastgui[26179]: segfault at 08e79000 eip b18f38f4 esp b10f8c90 error 4
Jul 29 11:10:54 marvin kernel: [176119.380671] avast[9034]: segfault at b3cac000 eip b1d0c8f4 esp bfde4af0 error 4
Jul 29 11:54:48 marvin kernel: [178748.686716] avastgui[13216]: segfault at b6480000 eip b128c8f4 esp b11ce230 error 4
Jul 29 12:25:37 marvin kernel: [180595.295360] avastgui[18210]: segfault at b547c000 eip b1ec98f4 esp b5143f60 error 4
Jul 29 12:50:21 marvin kernel: [182076.437365] avastgui[10473]: segfault at b3680000 eip b19ff8f4 esp b1205230 error 4

Hi, I think this is a Ubuntu fault rather an avast problem.

From time to time, I have same error -I too run Hardy 8.04.1- with the muCommander (norton commander clone in Java) and gdmsetup -you know, opening the window to change login screen.

May be updating your distro to latest patchs can make it, I'm having not a single issue from a time now...  (touch wood!)

BTW, avast's best AV out there =)
Best!

My system is fully up to date, I check regularly for patches, and it's my first reaction whenever there's a software SNAFU.

Hallo,
please, check this pre-beta: http://public.avast.com/~cimbal/test - does the flaw still occur?
