Not happy
« on: April 07, 2004, 05:55:47 AM »
My Nortons ran out, and I hated how it takes over everywhere, so I downloaded Avast Pro.

From that moment on, I can't print from Outlook Express, and I regularly have to print emails for work, and certain web pages go through the process of loading, but are completely blank!

One of these is the Microsoft Update page.

I installed Mozilla Firefox which solved the problem, except for Windows updates, which Billy Gates says I must get though IE.

But I still can't print my emails.

Avast Pro has been completely uninstalled, and I'm running AVG for the minute.

I'm running Win2000, IE6, Firefox .8 and OE6, 2.6Mhz AND processor and a gig of 400Mhz RAM

Unfortunately, Norton still leaves a nasty footprint that may interfere with the installation of Avast.  Please refer to "Technical's" tried and true method of removing Norton from you computer.  Around here, Norton is the equivalent of malware once the user has no further use for it.

Did you uninstall (and clear) your system of Norton before installing avast?
Both antivirus at the same machine are incompatible...

But it's quite strange for me... avast should not interfere with printing...  :-\

Did you make a search on the board for printing problems?

Hello, Technical.  Well, he was online and now he's not.  I hope he comes back later.

culpeper,

I was looking for Technicals info/link the other day.

Thanks.  I needed it for another post.  It works!

Well, I've run the Norton's program to uninstall properly, and RegClean, RegCleaner PLUS RegSupreme, but still can't print emails and still get blank pages in IE6.

Can't think of anything else to try . . .

Did you try running the repair option for IE6?

You may need to rollback IE6.  I hope not.  I hate having to do that.  I've had to do it once.

Jeees!

Ten years of receiving emails, and I've never heard of either of those things!

You can run the IE repair program through the add/remove program icon in the control panel.

Select Microsoft Internet Explorer and then select repair.

Now there's something:

It won't run! Just gives me a blank window and a line of text describing what you can do in the Add/Remove programs section.

Try downloading and running the AvClear4 program: http://www.avast.com/i_idt_1336.html

Seems like Avast.com's off the air for now -- I'll try later (neither your link, nor the link to their home page, works at present)
