« on: August 02, 2008, 09:00:49 PM »
Hi,
Is there no manual scanning ability in Avast 4.8?
If not, how does one open the scanning choice?
Thanks,
Jim

Yes there is, it is the Simple User Interface (SUI), accessed by:

a) right click the avast 'a' icon, select Start avast! Antivirus, a memory scan is done first before the SUI is displayed.
b) there is normally an avast icon on the desktop that you can double click that also starts it.
c) or directly via explorer, C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashSimpl.exe.

Check out the avast help file, Simple User Interface section for more information.

Hi...

Yes there is. When you bring up the main window, click on "Local Disks," choose the type of scan you want (quick, standard or thorough,) and whether you want to include archived folders in with the scan and then click the "Start" button. :)

Best Regards...

Thanks! Now my problem is when I enter the validation key the program says it is an invalid number. I've checked and checked and it looks exactly like the number I'm supposed to enter...??? Unless the 000s are really OOOs.

To leave no doubt whatsover, do as I do and what they actually recommend.  Instead of trying to TYPE the Registration Key ... COPY it from the E-mail Reply from avast! and PASTE it into the Registration Key slot.  This will ensure that you inserted the EXACT Key that avast! sent you.

Another Tip, another thing I do is I then Copy & Paste that avast! E-mail with the Registration Key onto an MS Word Doc.  I then have that saved in my Backup Files CD.
