FALSE POSITIVES IN LATEST VERSION OF AVAST PERSONAL (FREE)
« on: August 06, 2008, 01:40:52 PM »
Ever since I downloaded AVAST's latest new version, I've been getting false-positive Trojan alerts when I download files that I know for certain are not infected. For instance.

http://tinyurl.com/6nqcsr (This is a download called winremotepclt.exe from Download.com. I know there is not trojan in it.

Or if you prefer download it from http://www.winsoftmagic.com/download/winremotepclt.exe (WinsoftMagic's site - the developer)

Even more troubling, AVAST is reporting that Registry Mechanic's installer contains a Trojan.

http://thundercloud.net/cdrom/pctools/rm-install.exe

This is a link from my own site, of a file that has been download many thousands of times without problem. There is no trojan in it. This is our PC Tools affiliate installer and AVAST detects a trojan in it - and it's killing our sales of the program and cutting out revenue.

I've been using AVAST for years and I've never had a problem with it before. False-positives are not good for your reputation and certainly not good for reputable companies who offer clean files only to have your product brand them as Trojan infected files.

It is urgent that you take care of this problem immediately to insure that you maintain your good reputation and not wreck the reputation of other good companies who make and sell products online via download.

Your urgent attention to this matter is appreciated.
