CANNOT SCHEDULE BOOT TIME SCAN IN VISTA 64
« on: August 09, 2008, 01:47:26 AM »
hello...love Avast Home..beautiful program!

MY PROBLEM:

i have vista 64 installed (1st partition) on a dual booting system with windows xp (2nd partition)..avast 4.8.1229 is installed.

i have not activated windows vista 64 since i have not finalized my hardware installation...SO...i have used "Windows Software Licensing Tool" to extend the activation another 30 days (max of 120 days).

now, i can not enable a "Schedule Boot-Time Scan"..i am almost positive it worked before i did the first extension of avoiding activation...the verbage is there in the control panel but it is greyed out now like it is not available for selection...if i reboot into windows XP, the scan option is available and works perfectly.

i have tried to uninstall and reinstall Avast4 Home on Vista 64 with no success.

is there anyway to get this corrected in my current configuration or do i have to do a totally new Windows Vista 64 installation?

Unfortunately the boot-time scan isn't available with 64bit OS but it does work in the 32bit OS.

It is the additional security in the 64bit OS that is the problem, but I believe Alwil are trying to find a way to do it, how long that is likely to take is the 64,000 dollar question.

i guess i was thinking of Vista 32 where it worked just fine.

my solution: since i am dual booting with Vista 64 & Windows XP, i will just go into XP to initiate the boot time scan for the drive letter that encompasses Vista 64 install...it is workable and i have already completed one scan like that, so i know it does work. ;D
